ID Theft Tips
There are several things you can do to protect your identity and the identity of your child. Check out the following 10 tips:
  1. Never carry your Social Security card with you.
  2. Never give personal information over the telephone unless you initiate the call.
  3. Never respond to an e-mail requesting personal information and be very cautious about web links in e-mails.  Type web addresses directly into your browser.
  4. Choose uncommon passwords and change them regulary.
  5. Shop online only at reputable, secure Web sites.
  6. Be careful about posting identifying information about you or your family on your personal web page.
  7. Do not use the "save password" function on important accounts.
  8. Shred important documents before discarding!  Crosscut shredders are best.
  9. Check your credit report and your children's credit report at least once a year.
  10. Take outgoing mail to the post office or a postal drop box and promptly remove mail from your mailbox.
