Computer Fraud Checklist
  • Avoid opening unexpected and unfamiliar emails and attachments—they may contain viruses.
  • Don’t reply to a spam message. You will only get more spam.

  • Be cautious when installing free software on your desktop. Sometimes, free software has useful features; however some software exposes your e-mail address to others and places unwanted spyware on your computer.
  • Provide personal information on the Internet only if you are confident that the organization you are dealing with is credible and the Web site is safe and encrypted.
  • Check with the organization’s customer service group before you provide your personal information.
  • Use anti-virus software and keep your computer updated from the latest viruses on the Internet.
  • Use a firewall on your computer to prevent unwanted Internet traffic from your entering your computer.
  • Scan all attachments with updated anti-virus software before you open it – even if it is sent from someone you know.
