Telephone Fraud
Qwest wants its customers to have a positive and secure telecommunications experience. If you have questions about the information below please contact Qwest customer service at 800-244-1111.

Wireless fraud
Thieves order phones under a false identity and use them, resell them, or commit large scale long-distance fraud until the wireless provider identifies that it is happening and cuts them off.

Voice Mail
Unauthorized users remotely access mailboxes to place collect, third-party and direct-dial calls at the victim’s expense.

Call Forwarding
Perpetrators leave automated messages requesting you to press ‘*72’ (or something similar) and attempt to forward your number to a long-distance operator for use by others to make long-distance calls that will be charged to you.

Collect Calls
There is a telephone scam that originates from Mexico and often targets Hispanic communities. Consumers are deceived into accepting a collect call from a particular family member when, in fact, the call is from a stranger. The consumer is then fraudulently billed a large amount for a call that lasts a few minutes or less.

Calling Cards
Beware of calls to your home or office from people posing as a telephone representative and asking for your calling card number. Once they have the card number, the real fraud begins. Qwest representatives will never call and ask for your calling card number.
